The Streaming Theatre will host solo artists Laura Jane Bailey, Brian Copeland, Annamarie MacLeod and Lambeth Sterling for a weekend solo performance festival called The Unexpected Solo Festival!  David Ford collaborated in the creation of all the shows. The performances will run May 21-23, 2021.

David Ford has been collaborating on new and unusual theatre for three decades and has been an artist-in-residence at The Marsh for most of that time. The San Francisco press has variously called him “the solo performer maven“, “the monologue maestro”, “the dean of solo performance”, and “the solo performer’s best friend” and a week rarely goes by when residents of the Bay Area cannot enjoy one of his productions.

The Shows:

The Paris Effect by Laura Jane Bailey (May 21 @ 6 PM, May 23 @ 1 PM)

A young woman falls in love with Paris, France and begins an obsessive affair with the city.  Years later, she brings her husband to Paris to show him The City of Lights.  But things take a terrible turn and Paris becomes jealous and obsessive…and the couple barely makes it out of the city alive!  Bay Area Solo Performance Guru, David Ford, directs this one-woman show, written and performed by Laura Jane Bailey, about the tragedy of obsessive love and the healing power of true flesh and blood love.

The Waiting Period by Brian Copeland (May 22 @ 6 PM)

Even while living the life of a charismatic public figure, talk show host and actor-writer Brian Copeland struggles with debilitating bouts of depression. He's taken those struggles and channeled them into The Waiting Period, a powerful show chronicling the 10 days he spent waiting for the permit to get the gun he needed to kill himself. With intense honesty and unrelenting humor Copeland shares his insider's perspective on the deepest wells of depression. He concludes his story with interviews of others suffering from depression, showcasing the universal nature of the experience

Backstitch by Annamarie MacLeod (May 21 @ 7:30 PM)

A humorous look at the threads that connect us to our ancestors. Quarantine is hitting us all a little funny, but how can I expect the FedEx guy to take me seriously while I'm living my best 1805 life?

Full Fathom Five by Annamarie MacLeod (May 23 @ 3:30 PM)

Annamarie is rocking her pregnancy, but a simple misunderstanding sends her into a tailspin about what motherhood actually means. And even her perfect prenatal diet and exercise regime cannot save her from her own (undiagnosed, unbalanced) brain. What monstrous transformation will have to take place to become “Mama”? And will anyone be left when the dust settles?

Interior Design During A Pandemic (exerpt) by Lambeth Sterling (May 22 @ 8 PM, May 23 @ 2:30 PM)

In this excursion into the past state of her affairs, Lambeth shines a light on everything we might (and might not) want to know about her dating life in New York many years ago.  Expect to be concerned.  Warning – not for children and don’t bring your parents!

The Performers:

Laura Jane Bailey is a Bay Area actress, originally from Chicago. She has performed at Aurora Theatre, Theatreworks SV, Boxcar Theater, Dragon Theatre and Impact Theatre (Bay Area Critics Circle Award for Best Featured Actress for CREVICE by Lauren Yee, directed by Desdemona Chiang).

Brian Copeland is an award-winning actor, comedian, author, playwright, television and radio talk show host based in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2004, Copeland debuted his first one-man play NOT A GENUINE BLACK MAN at The Marsh in San Francisco that became the longest-running solo show in San Francisco theatrical history with over 800 performances. The show has been performed in over 30 cities, including a critically acclaimed run Off-Broadway.  He has written and performed three subsequent critically acclaimed solo plays including THE WAITING PERIOD (2015 Theater Bay Area Award for Outstanding Production of a Solo Play), the Christmas show THE JEWELRY BOX  and THE SCION (PBS affiliate KQED’s Best New Play of 2014). His new play, GRANDMA & ME; AN ODE TO SINGLE PARENTS, debuted in 2019

Annamarie MacLeod lived in New York and Chicago before settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has worked locally with Perspective Theatre Company (formerly Arabian Shakespeare Festival, with whom she is an artistic associate), the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, Pacific Repertory Theatre, Bus Barn Stage Company, Woman's Will, the New Conservatory Theatre Center, the Pear Ave Theatre, theatre Q, the Ragged Wing Ensemble, and Dragon Productions.

Lambeth Sterling started telling her authentic stories on stage in the early 1990s, and audiences unexpectedly started laughing.  She learned to tell the often-excruciating truth with humor on her feet.  Having been trained in the buckle of the Bible Belt to tell the blunt truth immediately, improvisation eventually came naturally.  She was fortunate to have a therapist who said, “Nothing is funnier than hearing Lambeth talk about her deepest pain.”  She honed her ability as a solo performer under the direction of the best directors in the Bay Area and now performs under the direction of widely acclaimed Director David Ford.  She has been in therapy everywhere.
